B Corp Month: Three Years of Impact at Rareloop

March marks B Corp Month, a moment to celebrate businesses using their work as a force for good. For us, it’s also a moment to reflect.

While Rareloop officially became a certified B Corp in 2023, scoring 91.4 our commitment to responsible business has always been part of who we are.

When our founder, Joe, first encountered B Corp, it was the first time his instinctive approach to business was articulated so clearly. It gave us a language to explain how we work, and a framework that continues to push us to measure, improve and do better.

Over the past three years, we’ve continued to measure, improve and embed impact across three core areas: Environment, People and Community.

Environment

We believe you can’t improve what you don’t measure. So in 2020, we signed up to Compare My Footprint to begin formally tracking our carbon emissions. That gave us a consistent, transparent way to understand our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions year on year.

As a business our overall emissions are relatively low, and year-to-year changes are often driven by factors like equipment upgrades or travel. What matters most is that we measure them consistently, understand where they come from, and take responsibility for them.

We also made the decision early on to:

  • Offset our team’s personal carbon footprint, making us a carbon positive workforce
  • Offset business emissions through Ecologi

Over the years, this has resulted in over 7 thousand trees planted and hundreds of tonnes of certified CO₂ reduced.

People

Our people are our superpower!

Over the past four years we’ve:

  • Maintained a 0% gender pay gap
  • Grown headcount significantly, including investment in junior roles
  • Introduced and embedded hybrid flexible working
  • Formalised our commitment to the Living Wage through accreditation

We’ve maintained a balanced gender split across and continued to support flexible, non-standard working patterns. The values that align us with B Corp show up in our day to day, shaping how we make decisions, support our people, and collaborate with clients and partners.

Community

Every year, we ring-fence £15,000 to support good causes, independent of profit and loss. Over the past four years, that’s meant that we’ve:

  • Donated over £60,000 to charitable causes
  • Supported initiatives from local community to international efforts
  • Delivered “for good” digital projects impacting ~1.7 million individuals

Beyond client work, we’ve continued contributing to the open source community. Our free WordPress framework, Lumberjack, has been downloaded 153k times.

The work doesn’t stop at certification

When we were certified in 2023, it was a huge achievement for the team. Read about it here.

But the real achievement has been the accountability it’s given us. It’s pushed us to measure more rigorously, think longer term, and balance commercial ambition with environmental and social responsibility. For our clients, this means:

  • Transparent reporting
  • Long-term thinking over short-term wins
  • Ethical decision-making built into delivery
  • A partner that takes governance and sustainability seriously

Looking Ahead

This year we have to re-certify, and the process to do so has evolved. What was an 80-point flexible scoring system, is now a mandatory performance requirement across seven key impact areas.

The aim of this change is to increase rigor, reduce greenwashing, ensure continuous improvement, and align with new, stricter regulatory standards. As a business that has always taken a sustainable, long-term approach, we’re confident this evolution aligns with how we already operate.

Moving forwards:

  • We’ll continue to measure our impact.
  • We’ll continue to ring-fence funds for community investment.
  • We’ll continue to build a balanced, inclusive team.
  • And we’ll continue to create digital products that positively change businesses and empower communities.
Let's create something awesome together
